How to Play Four Card Poker

Players are permitted to make an ante bet, an “Aces Up” bet, or even a combination of the two. Each player at the Four Card Poker table receives five cards from the dealer (face down), while the dealer receives five cards and a final card placed face up. The house and each player then attempt to create the best possible four card hand. The house’s advantage in Four Card Poker comes primarily from the additional card.

Once the cards are dealt, each player has the option to fold their original ante if they so choose, or make an additional bet at least one times the ante. One key different in Four Card Poker compared to Three Card Poker is the fact that the dealer will always qualify for play.

Four Card Poker Payouts and Hand Rankings

Each player that ties or beats the dealer’s best 4 Card Poker hand receives their respective antes and any additional bets they made. Players can receive a bonus payout if they have three of a kind, four of a kind, or a straight flush. Although a player will still lose his or her ante bet, these bonuses can still be paid out, even if the dealer ultimately has a better hand.

The hand rankings for Four Card Poker are very similar to normal varieties of poker:

  • Four of a Kind
  • Straight Flush
  • Three of a Kind
  • Flush
  • Straight
  • Two Pairs
  • One Pair
  • Highest Single Card

As far as the Aces Up bet is concerned, payouts are simple; players that make this bet and have a pair or Aces or better win. The dealer’s hand is not considered with the Aces Up bet. Payouts often vary, but can sometimes reach a 50-1 payout for four of a kind.
